Expanding Pet Protection: Coverage, Partnerships, and Community Impact in Focus

MetLife Pet Insurance and the Association of Animal Welfare Advancement have awarded The Bond Between, a Minnetonka-based animal welfare organization, the 2025 Golden Beagle Award, along with $20,000 in support. The group is recognized for its holistic approach to preventing animal homelessness and strengthening the human-animal bond through rescue, adoption, low-cost vet clinics, and support services. Since its founding in 2009, the organization has rescued over 32,000 animals and completed more than 3,100 adoptions in 2024 alone. CEO Rachel Mairose said the award will help expand their impact and continue addressing the root causes of animal homelessness.
Synchrony has partnered with Pumpkin Pet Insurance to simplify pet healthcare reimbursements through CareCredit. Pet owners with both a CareCredit card and Pumpkin insurance can now pay upfront for vet services and receive approved reimbursements directly back to their CareCredit account. This streamlined process aims to reduce out-of-pocket costs and financial stress. Synchrony plans to expand this solution to more insurers in the future, enhancing access to affordable veterinary care.
Pet insurance may cover prescription food, but typically only under specific conditions. Coverage usually applies when the food is prescribed by a veterinarian to treat a diagnosed medical issue, such as diabetes, kidney disease, or digestive problems. However, most insurers exclude coverage for general health maintenance, weight management, or specialty diets like raw or fresh food. Some providers, like MetLife, Pumpkin, and ASPCA, offer limited coverage, while others, such as Healthy Paws and Lemonade, exclude it entirely. Always check with your specific provider to understand what’s included under your policy.
