Prudential Life Insurance Hit by ¥3.1 Billion Fraud by Employees

Prudential Life Insurance in Tokyo revealed that over 100 current and former employees defrauded around 500 customers of approximately ¥3.1 billion ($19.6 million). Misconduct included embezzlement, improper investment solicitations, and personal loans from clients, with some cases dating back to 2017. The company cited weak management oversight and performance-linked pay as factors contributing to the fraud. Prudential Life is compensating affected customers and cooperating with authorities. CEO Kan Mabara will step down on 1 February, to be replaced by Hiromitsu Tokumaru.
