SiriusPoint Ltd.’s subsidiary, International Medical Group (IMG), will acquire Assist America, a New Jersey-based emergency travel assistance provider with $20 million in annual revenue. Assist America serves 40 million members across Asia, the Middle East, and North America, primarily through insurance company benefit plans. The acquisition is expected to boost IMG’s medical and travel assistance revenue, expand its U.S. presence, and extend coverage in Asia and the Middle East. IMG already offers international medical, travel insurance, and 24/7 emergency assistance to travelers, students, and other groups abroad.
A survey by Go.Compare Travel Insurance found that most UK winter sports travellers may be underinsured, with only 13% purchasing specialist winter sports policies and 11% relying on standard travel insurance without checking coverage. Many standard policies lack adequate protection for skiing, including piste closures, lost or damaged hire equipment, and mountain rescue costs. Coverage varies widely, with some policies offering no compensation for ski area closures and limited support for medical emergencies on the slopes. Experts warn that specialist policies are crucial for proper protection during winter sports holidays.
In 2025, Australians increasingly embraced budget-conscious and value-driven travel, favoring destinations in Southeast Asia and the Pacific due to a weaker Australian dollar. Artificial intelligence played a growing role in travel planning, with many travellers relying on AI for destination research, price comparisons, and even insurance recommendations. Despite changing habits, demand for comprehensive travel insurance remained strong, particularly for longer trips and cruises, where medical claims can be high. Looking ahead to 2026, early planning and robust coverage will continue to be priorities, reflecting a broader global trend toward tech-driven, protection-focused travel. The shift highlights opportunities for insurers and travel providers to adapt to more cost-conscious, safety-minded, and digitally savvy consumers.
Indonesia’s Financial Service Authority (OJK) is supporting mandatory travel insurance for foreign tourists to enhance visitor protection and stimulate the insurance market. The policy would require coordination across multiple ministries, ensure adequate coverage, and prioritize consumer protection to avoid excessive costs. OJK expects the move to boost specialized insurance products and expand the sector’s investment base, which has shown strong growth in 2025. While offering tourists greater security, the requirement could also pose an entry barrier for travelers unfamiliar with mandatory insurance. Overall, the policy aims to strengthen both Indonesia’s tourism and insurance industries.
